Billy Bob Thornton & Sam Elliott on Taylor Sheridan's Paramount Exit (2025)

Get ready for some insider scoop on the future of the hit series 'Landman'! The recent news of Taylor Sheridan's departure from Paramount has sparked curiosity and debate. But here's where it gets interesting...

Last month, The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Sheridan, the creative mastermind behind 'Landman', is moving on to NBCUniversal, leaving Paramount behind. However, this transition is not as straightforward as it seems. Sheridan's TV deal with Paramount will continue until the end of 2028, and only then will he fully shift to NBCUniversal.

During the premiere of 'Landman' season 2, Billy Bob Thornton, who portrays the charismatic oil crisis manager Tommy Norris, shared his thoughts on Sheridan's move. Thornton believes that the shows currently housed at Paramount will remain there, unaffected by Sheridan's departure. He added, "Taylor is a brilliant talent, and wherever he goes, success is sure to follow."

Sam Elliott, the newcomer to the 'Landman' family this season, echoed Thornton's sentiments. Playing the role of T.L., Tommy's father, Elliott emphasized that Sheridan's move won't impact the future of the series. He explained, "Taylor's work at Paramount will stay put. It's a new deal with Universal, and it's an exciting step forward for him."

'Landman' made a powerful debut last November, attracting 5.2 million viewers, making it the top Paramount+ series launch in two years. Since then, the pressure to live up to its predecessor has been a constant companion for the cast and crew.

Thornton described this pressure, saying, "When you have a successful show continuing, there's always the challenge to maintain that success. It's the same in movies; sequels always come with pressure. We felt it, but once we started, we had to focus on our craft."

Michelle Randolph, who plays Thornton's TV daughter Ainsley Norris, believes 'Landman' has a long and prosperous future ahead. She highlighted the show's rich character development, stating, "There are so many stories to tell with these distinct characters. Each character has room to grow and evolve, making them deeply human and captivating."

Randolph also shared her experience of working with Demi Moore, who returned to the show with an expanded role. She gushed, "Working with Demi was fantastic, and having her cute dog Pilaf on set made it even better. It was the luckiest day of the year, and I felt so fortunate to be surrounded by such talented actors."

'Landman' season 2 is set to debut on Paramount+ on November 16th. Will the show continue to thrive without Sheridan's direct involvement? Only time will tell. What are your thoughts on this transition? Feel free to share your opinions and predictions in the comments below!
