Bo Naylor's 2026 Breakout Season: Guardians Manager Stephen Vogt Says 'Sky’s the Limit' (2026)

Bold claim: Bo Naylor is entering 2026 with the potential to redefine his career, and the Guardians aren’t just hoping for a breakout—they’re counting on it. But here’s where it gets controversial: will this year truly live up to the hype, or will expectations overwhelm what he can deliver? Let’s break down where things stand and why fans should be paying attention.

Bo Naylor is turning 26 on February 21, and he enjoyed a breakout surge last September that wasn’t a fluke. He hit three home runs, drove in 16 runs, and posted a .290 batting average, helping Cleveland finish the month 20-7 and seize the top spot in the American League Central. Only Jose Ramirez produced more in that stretch, with four homers and 17 RBIs over 27 games versus Naylor’s 19. Before that late-season burst, Naylor’s best month had been July, when he hit .204 with two homers and six RBIs.

As spring training kicked off in Goodyear, Arizona, the Guardians were energized to keep that momentum going. Their first full-squad workout of 2026 happened on February 17, and manager Stephen Vogt spoke with optimism about the so-called Naylor Train.

“Bo had a phenomenal offseason,” Vogt said via Zoom from Goodyear. “He’s ready to go. He made some good adjustments with his swing path. He’s looked great in his live batting practice. Again, we’re just talking about practice, but I think the sky is the limit for Bo this year. I think he’s going to pick up right where he left off. I’m really excited to watch him.”

Naylor wasn’t the only focal point in Goodyear. Kyle Manzardo spent time in the weight room and focused on conditioning as well. Manzardo, now in his second full season as Cleveland’s primary first baseman and occasional DH, had his strongest month in July, hitting .295 with five homers and 14 RBIs. He finished September at .239 with four homers and 10 RBIs, a productive extension from his 2024 season in which he moved from 53 games to 142 last year.

Vogt acknowledged the challenge of driving the ball, noting, “I think any hitter who’s trying to drive the ball at the ballpark is going to struggle. For Manzo, with adding the extra strength, he doesn’t have to try anymore. When the ball’s there, and he’s ready to hit it, it’s going to travel.” He praised Manzardo’s ability to use the whole field and middle of the park, calling him a really, really good hitter who’s starting to realize his power potential.

Looking ahead to the Cactus League, Cleveland’s schedule starts on February 21 with split-squad games against the Reds and Brewers. Lefties Joey Cantillo and Logan Allen are lined up as the Guardians’ starting pitchers for those games, though Vogt hasn’t yet announced who will start which game.

As spring approaches, there’s still debate across the league about who will be the Opening Day starter for the Guardians. Vogt and pitching coach Carl Willis have not yet decided who’ll take the first toss on March 26 in Seattle against the Mariners.

In short, Cleveland is betting on a bigger, brighter season for Naylor and a continued rise for Manzardo, with competition and development shaping a potentially transformative year for the Guardians. Do you think this duo can sustain their late-2025 momentum into a successful 2026 campaign, or will the expectations create extra pressure? Share your thoughts in the comments.
