A bold mission to support medical research: Mineral Resources (MinRes) takes the plunge!
In a world where diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes affect so many, the Perkins Institute stands tall, dedicated to improving lives. With a powerhouse team of over 450 researchers and clinicians, they're on a mission to find answers and better outcomes.
But here's where it gets controversial...
The Perkins doesn't work alone. They're backed by strong partnerships and the unwavering support of the community. MinRes, a proud partner, has contributed an impressive $2 million since 2018, a testament to their commitment to making a difference.
And this is the part most people miss...
MinRes' support goes beyond financial contributions. Their employees are actively involved, with many participating in the annual Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins, raising a staggering $3.2 million over seven years. It's a true team effort!
Now, MinRes is taking their support to new depths with the Perkins Plunge, a unique 12-hour overnight team relay swim.
The Plunge, a first-of-its-kind event in 2024, brings together corporate teams, researchers, and passionate community members. They leap into chilly waters, swimming with determination to raise critical funds for medical research.
MinRes GM Commercial Jodie Winnett, an experienced endurance athlete, is gearing up for her second Plunge. Despite her impressive feats, including five Rottnest Channel Swims and the challenging Port to Pub ultra marathon, she acknowledges the unique challenge of the overnight Plunge.
"I'm proud to be part of the MinRes team, swimming through the night for such a vital cause. Diseases like cancer have impacted those close to me, giving this challenge a personal touch. When the going gets tough, I'll draw strength from their memory," Jodie shared.
Perkins CEO Professor Peter Leedman AO emphasizes the event's deeper meaning: "Participants pushing themselves in the pool symbolize the collective effort needed to advance medical research and bring hope for life-saving discoveries."
The Perkins Plunge, powered by MinRes, is more than just a swim. It's a celebration of resilience and a testament to the dedication of researchers tackling the world's toughest diseases.
Among the MinRes team, sisters Elia and Makayla Felix stand out. They're swimming with a deeply personal motivation, in memory of their aunt, Toni, who lost her battle with cancer in 2023.
"My Zia was like a second mother. Her presence in my life was profound, always there for me. Losing her was unimaginable, but her strength and calmness during her diagnosis inspired me," Elia shared.
Elia's experience has shaped her perspective: "It made me realize the importance of every moment. Zia went through so much, so I want to support advancements in cancer treatment and ensure no one has to face such difficult news again."
MinRes, through their social investment program, proudly supports initiatives that benefit the communities they operate in. Their partnership with the Perkins is a shining example of this commitment.
So, as the Perkins Plunge makes a splash, remember the impact of every stroke and the lives that will be changed. It's a powerful reminder of the difference we can make together.
