Patrick Lefevere, the former Soudal-Quick-Step boss, has finally revealed the reason behind his month-long hospital stay. In an interview with Belgian news site Het Laaste Nieuws, the 70-year-old opened up about his health struggles, including broken ribs from a fall, pneumonia, and a concerning large abscess on his liver. Lefevere clarifies that the abscess was not related to his liver, as a biopsy confirmed its health. He attributes the abscess to a bacterium that required time to heal, despite the common misconception that he drinks excessively. Lefevere's health scare has led him to step down from his long-standing role in cycling, marking the end of a 45-year career. He expressed his relief and fatigue, stating, 'I'm glad I stepped down. It was enough after 45 years. I was tired, very tired. I think I've done enough.' Lefevere leaves behind a substantial budget and multi-year sponsorship contracts, reflecting his significant impact on the sport.
