Shroud Calls The Game Awards Rigged: Arc Raiders Snubbed for GOTY in 2025 Nominations! (2026)

The AI Revolution in Gaming: A Controversial Snub?

In a recent development that has sparked debate, popular streamer Shroud has accused The Game Awards of rigging the nominations, specifically targeting the lack of recognition for Arc Raiders as Game of the Year (GOTY) for 2025. This comes as a surprise to many, considering the game's innovative use of AI-generated voice work, which Shroud believes should have been a strong contender.

The Game Awards, a prestigious event in the gaming industry, unveiled its nominations this week, with Sandfall's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 leading the pack with a record-breaking 12 nominations. Meanwhile, Embark Studios' Arc Raiders, despite its explosive launch and critical acclaim, received only one nomination in the Best Multiplayer category, alongside other heavyweights like Battlefield 6 and Elden Ring: Nightreign.

But here's where it gets controversial... Shroud, a former professional Counter-Strike player with a massive online following, had actively campaigned for Arc Raiders to be recognized as GOTY. He argued that multiplayer gamers, often a minority in the industry, deserved a voice and that Arc Raiders' unique AI integration should have been celebrated.

In a recent Twitch stream, Shroud reacted to the nominations with a mix of disappointment and surprise. "The world is simply not prepared for AI in video games just yet," he stated. "They're not ready for it, but at least they acknowledged Arc Raiders with a nomination. I thought they'd ignore it completely due to potential backlash."

And this is the part most people miss... Shroud continued, "Another year, another rigged award show. It's crazy how these things work."

With the year coming to a close, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a single-player RPG, has emerged as a strong contender for GOTY. Shroud, however, took issue with another nominee, Donkey Kong Bananza, an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2. "Imagine if Donkey Kong wins... this award show would be a joke. Who's even playing Donkey Kong Bananza? No one! It's insane."

Despite his criticism, Shroud admitted that Expedition 33 was likely to take home the GOTY award. He expressed his hope that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 would emerge victorious, and predicted Arc Raiders to win Best Multiplayer and Battlefield 6 to win Best Action. He was confused as to why Arc Raiders wasn't nominated for Best Audio Design, given its impressive audio design achievements.

Shroud's accusations of rigging in The Game Awards are not new. He had previously dismissed the awards as rigged, questioning their legitimacy. "All these awards are fixed anyway, who cares? When was the last time you saw an award show that was actually fair?"

The Game Awards, organized by Geoff Keighley, uses a combination of votes from the games media, influencers, and the public. However, Keighley has expressed concerns about relying solely on public voting due to potential "social engineering."

The Game Awards ceremony is scheduled for December 11, 2025, at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET. Will Arc Raiders' AI innovation be recognized, or will the awards continue to be a source of controversy? The gaming community awaits with anticipation.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think AI in video games is a step too far, or is it the future of gaming? Let us know in the comments!
